The history of Vieux Chateau Certan brings back to the 16th century with the family Demay, coming from Scotland. However, it is only in 1858 that the estate is renovated and designed as we know it today, thanks to Charles de Bousquet. In 1924, Georges Thienpont, a wine merchant, purchased the estate. Even today, the Thienpont Family still owns Vieux Chateau Certan.
The vineyard of Vieux Château Certan extends over 14 hectares on a single bloc, divided into 23 parcels managed independently. The soils are composed of a clay part and a clay-limestone part. The grape variety is 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Francs and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Great attention is paid to each stage of the vinification by the Château’s teams in order to preserve and favor the maturity of the grapes.
At the tasting, Vieux Château Certan offers a deep and brilliant colour, as well as the richness and subtlety of the aromas. It’s an inimitable style.
