The history of Château Ferran dates back to the 18th century when it was owned by Montesquieu before being bought by an old Bordeaux family; the descendants of Joseph Beraud-Sudreau. Since 1999, it is Philippe and Ghislaine Lacoste who direct this vintage. The many renovations of the vineyard and renovation of the cellars undertaken in recent years have been quickly rewarded with many medals and notes from journalists, especially during tastings Primeurs.
Château Ferran is located on an exceptional terroir, adjoining some of the most famous wines of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The Château Ferran vineyard stretches over 18 hectares of vines planted on slightly gravelly Miocene limestone-clay ridges. The grape varieties are 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. The work in the vineyard is conducted in the respect of the traditions with disbudding, stripping, thinning, manual harvest parcel by plot and sorting in the vineyard and the vat room. Thus, the best batches are selected for assembly. Vinification is done in thermoregulated stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged in barrels, 35% of which are made from new wood. Château Ferran is the wedding of an exceptional vineyard and a family of enthusiasts.
At the tasting, Château Ferran presents a deep and brilliant wheel dress. The nose offers a nice minerality, the mouth is powerful and fleshy, while being very elegant.
