History
The Thomas Vineyards are first and foremost a family affair. In 1953, Georges Thomas bought a few hectares of vines and gave birth to Château Reverdi. In the 2000s, the current owners Mathieu and Audrey Thomas, brother and sister, take over the reins of the vineyard with the same passion and the same love of the soil that animated their grandparents and parents. Since then, the Castles Reverdi has been dedicated Cru Bourgeois and enjoys a growing reputation in France and around the world. The Château Croix de Reverdi is not, strictly speaking, a second wine of Château Reverdi, but a full-fledged wine, produced by parcels overlooking the Garonne, in the town of Cussac. At the same time, Château Reverdi offers a sensory and playful approach to the world of wine thanks to an oenotourism offer that won the Best of Wine Tourism award in 2011.
Terroir & Vinification
The vineyards of Château Reverdi today comprise 18 hectares of vines, made up of a limestone clay soil, silica and gravels. The land is reputed to have been the first planted in Listrac. For the Château Croix de Reverdi, work on the vineyard has been completely restructured since 1985 with drainages and plants adapted to the terroir. The vinification is very precise and meticulous, in cellars that have nothing to envy to those of the Grands Crus Classés. At the end of the fermentations, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months, including 1/4 new oak.
Engagement
Château Croix de Reverdi has been certified HVE level 3 since 2015. The HVE standard was set up following the Grenelle de l’Environnement. It is based not on objectives of means but on objectives of results. They are measured by indicators that assess the environmental performance of the property in terms of biodiversity, use of plant protection products, management of fertilization and water resources.
Starting in 2021, the property will begin its transition to Organic Agriculture. This transition is part of the global environmental approach that the property has chosen to follow for two decades. For the Thomas family, choosing organic farming is a way to promote biodiversity while opening up to new markets.
