Château Reynon (White)

Château Reynon, in Béguey, in the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux, was bought in 1958 by Florence Dubourdieu’s father, Jacques David; his daughter and son-in-law Denis Dubourdieu, succeeded him in 1976. Thanks to their efforts, Château Reynon is today one of the most renowned wines of Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux.

The vineyard of Château Reynon covers 20.5 hectares of vines in red and 12.8 hectares of vines in white. The respective grape varieties are 81% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Petit Verdot on the one hand and 87% Sauvignon Blanc and 13% Semillon on the other. The terroir consists of deep gravel on a clay subsoil that occupy the top of a perfectly drained hill. At mid-slope, the land is clay-limestone and the rock outcrops in places. The foot of the coast has sandy soils. The viticulture methods are very respectful of the environment. Indeed, the vineyard is essentially maintained in traditional plowing, no herbicide is used on the property and the organic manures are based on vegetable composts. The picking is carried out manually in general in one time and if it is necessary by 2 successive sorts of golden grapes arrived at their aromatic optimum. After a possible phase of pellicular maceration, the slow extraction of the juices is carried out protected from oxidation. The musts of gout are rigorously separated from the musts of press and their clarification is done by natural sedimentation. The fermentation is done in vats. Aging is conducted on lees for 5 to 7 months, 50% in stainless steel tanks and 50% in wood vats from 60 to 80 Hl.

Château Reynon, Sauvignon Blanc, called “Vieilles Vignes” until 2003, is an elegant, complex and tasty dry wine, with aromas of grapefruit, white peach, with mineral and smoked notes, susceptible to a remarkable evolution in the bottle for several years.
