The history tells that the Château Gazin was a village in the 18th century, and that it is probably located on the site of “Hospital de Pomeyrols” built by the Knights to welcome pilgrims on the way to St Jacques de Compostelle . The name of the second wine “L’Hospitalet de Gazin” is directly inspired by it. Château Gazin is located between the vineyards of the Castles Gospel and especially Petrus. By the way, wine has long been called the little Petrus.
The vineyard covers an area of 26 hectares in one piece including 24 planted in vines on the famous clay-gravel plateau of Pomerol. The vineyard is composed of 90% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc and can produce up to 100,000 bottles. The average age of the vines is 35 years and these are planted at a rate of 5,500 to 7,000 feet per hectare. They are cultivated in a traditional way, in full respect of the environment: plowing, organic fertilizers, reasoned fight against vine pests, manual harvesting. The vinification is traditional (2 pumping over, grapes picked at optimum ripeness …) and the winemaking in small concrete vats. The wine is aged in oak barrels, half renewed each year, and thus follows for 18 months the process of aging the great wines of Bordeaux.
At the tasting, we discover a powerful, harmonious and deep wine, which offers a wide range of aromatic red and black fruits evolving during aging to complex notes, which can go undergrowth, leather or spices. On the palate, the tannic structure is fine, the woody delicate.
