History

Château Pape Clément, located in Pessac, near Bordeaux, owes its historical name to its most famous owner: Pope Clement V. It is one of the oldest Grands Crus in Bordeaux. Its vineyard was established in the 13th century and the first harvest took place in 1252. Château Pape Clément belongs since 1959 to the restricted circle of Grands Crus Classés de Graves. This property is one of the jewels of Bernard MAGREZ’s wide range of vineyards around the world.

Terroir & Vinification

The estate of Château Pape Clément belongs to the Pessac-Léognan appellation of origin and, more generally, to the vineyard of gravels. Based on a terroir with exceptional components, the 60 hectares of this vineyard consecrate the gathering of passion and work. Three hectares are thus devoted to the culture of white wine. The grape varieties are 45% Sauvignon Blanc, 45% Sémillon, 5% Muscadelle and 5% Sauvignon Gris. The average age of the vines is 30 years old.
Each parcel, each foot, each bay is cherished then transformed according to strict rules and in the respect of a reasoned culture. Size and stripping of a rare requirement, and vinification according to the strictest rules, everything is done so that the nature expresses what its best. The harvest is manual by successive sorting, in small crates with sorting in the vineyard.

Tasting

At the tasting, Château Pape Clément white offers wonderful exotic aromas tinted with musk, displaying a nice boldness and elegance worthy of the greatest white wines of Bordeaux.
